Peanut Allergies

I wanted to talk about my son's allergies. He seems to have gotten the shit end of a lot of deals. He had plagiocephaly from being crammed in the womb alongside his chubby twin and required a cranial helmet, he was tongue tied and needed to have his frenulum snipped and he had to drink Neocate amino acid based formula for his first year of life because of a milk and soy allergy. We also found out at 13 months that he has a severe peanut allergy. We were told at his 12 month well baby check that we could introduce a little peanut butter in to his diet. At 5:05, I gave him less than a tsp of peanut butter on a ritz cracker. By 5:15, he was getting his first ambulance ride to the hospital. Almost instantly after consuming the cracker, he started breaking out in a rash around his face and up his arms. His tongue started swelling and he began to stick it out as you can see in the pictures. While I was on the phone with 911, he then began to vomit. We later found out that the vomiting may have saved his life. He was in the ER for about 5 hours. His skin was beet red and he was boiling hot to the touch. He was itching until he had deep scratches on his arms and legs. The ER wasn't able to lower his body temp even with all the iv fluids they had been pumping into him for 5 hours. He was admitted to the Sanford Children's Hospital. They were able to give him something to lower his temp, his splotches started to disappear and his itching finally ceased. They have an amazing team there. It was the scariest day ever and our lives will never be the same. Our life now revolves around making Houston's world safe for him to exist in it. Our days of not reading EVERY label are over. He will never eat at a DQ, a buffet, potlucks, etc. Because of his egg allergy, he also won't get birthday cake, pancakes and ice cream. Allergies suck.

Karsyn's a ballerina!

Miss Karsyn had her first night of ballet today. She has been excited for weeks so I was hopeful she wouldn't be disappointed. Luckily, she LOVED it. She listened to her instructor, Mary Pat, she followed directions and boy did she laugh. I was so proud of the way she interacted with Mary Pat and the other kids. She was so sweet to everyone and smiled the entire time. She can't wait until next week and neither can I!

Just Us

My name is Angela. I'm an exhausted mom of 3 under 3. I strive to be the best mom I can be, but sometimes think my expectations are unreal. I'm married to Eric, who is one in a million. We will celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary tomorrow. I'm a lucky girl. We struggled and overcame infertility. In 20 short months, we brought 3 beautiful babies into this crazy world. Our daughter, Karsyn, will be 3 in September. Our twin sons, Chase and Houston, will be 2 in May. Short of somehow getting more hours in the day, I wouldn't change anything about our lives. I needed a place to share, vent and attention whore myself at times. A blog seemed like the obvious choice.

Lets try this again!
